Really wonderful food and owner. I normally don’t post reviews (this is my first review ever), but this place was just so lovely. Portions are huge (better for sharing), everything is delicious, and the owner seems very concerned in making sure everything is alright. They even managed to pack-up my leftovers for me, even though it’s not typically done in Italy.
Went here often while living in Avellino over 20 years ago. Reviews are still in line w what I experienced. While stuck on bistecca cinghiale, Antonio got me to try the boar cured meats in the charcuterie, boar polpetti (meatballs), flat grillata boar salsiccia (became my new favorite). Would drive 40 minutes from my house in Avellino to eat here! Ciao Antonio! Riccardo
Highly recommend this restaurant! Everything was delicious from the homemade charcuterie to the pappardelle al cinghiale to the wine! The owners are so nice and friendly
Grazie mille!
Best meal I’ve ever had in Italy. I remember the owner spoke very little English and so was explaining what the meats were by making their respective animal noises 😂. The food was incredible and the hospitality Was too. So was the hospitality of everyone I met in Benevento for that matter. Thanks for the incredible experience. …
Small, family owned restaurant that offered us some delicious dishes using fresh made pasta, local ingredients, and the passion of the owner (Antonio) serving his customers. Their focus is on wild boar. An outstanding, casual, and memorable dining experience. Highly recommend!
We had some grilled boar meat with herbs and a plate of pasta in boar and tomato stew; some broccoli in olive oil on the side; and a bottle of wine. Everything produced by these amazing people (including the wine). We also tried their home made limonchelo, and the desert of the day. Everything was spectacular and at a great price. Now I'm particularly sad to leave Italy, because I won't be able to eat here every day
I’d give six stars, ten, or a hundred if they were available. I had an outstanding meal here with excellent service in a warm, welcoming environment, on a quiet side street just a short way from the Santa Sofia church and museum. I highly recommend the antipasto of meats and cheeses: it was generous, varied, and very tasty. Mozzarella in fried dough with tomato sauce was followed by a board of cheeses (bocconcini di mozzarella and a sheep’s cheese) and several types of ham, salami and sausage – some from boar, as well as a slice of a kind of egg souffle. As a main dish, I had the grilled meats – an ample portion with several pieces of different types. All were delicious, tender, and juicy. The boar sausage was especially tasty. For dessert, I had baba soaked in strega. The house Aglianico was superb – a smooth, full-bodied wine with little resemblance to inexpensive Aglianico wines imported to the US. Best of all, the owner/chef treated everyone like his guests in a home. At each table, he explained where the locally prodcued foods came from and described the preparation. The meal was very relaxed and well-paced and the prices reasonable for the high quality of the food, preparation, and service. Standards are high for food in Italy, and this was one of the very best meals and experiences I’ve had.
I wrote the review in May 2018; a year later, I made a point of taking a day trip to Benevento with my wife, partly so she could experience the restaurant. We weren't disappointed! It was great - this time, we tried pastas (al ragu di cinghiale and with porcini) too, and the broad tagliatelle type pasta and sauces were excellent.
Highly recommended. Great food (local produce, homemade) and very reasonable prices. Great value for money. Friendly and helpful staff. Not much English spoken but bring a good translation app or just take a chance! A bit off the beaten track but absolutely worth the detour. This must be one of the places you visit if you're in Benevento.
